First it was hiking shorts. Then a skirt for the hot days. Then shorts with pockets, because the skirt didn't have any. And somewhere along the way your phone ended up in your sports bra anyway.
The skirt looked fine in the car park and rode up every time you stepped over a log. The shorts fitted, then chafed a few kilometres in. And neither had a pocket that could take a phone — just a decorative one deep enough for a car key and not much else.
This skort gives you both: a skirt on the outside, stretch shorts built in underneath, and a zipped cargo pocket that fits a full-size phone.
The built-in shorts sit close under the skirt. There's enough length to stop your thighs rubbing a few kilometres in, and enough stretch for a long stride, a scramble over roots or a step up onto a rock. When the wind catches the skirt or you take a big step, the shorts do the covering — no tugging the hem down every ten paces.
The waist sits high, with elastic and an internal drawstring that adjusts to your actual shape rather than the one a size chart guessed. It sits comfortably under the hip belt of a day pack and doesn't crease into your skin after a long day on the track.
The fabric is a quick-dry stretch polyester and spandex. It moves with you, and if a summer storm rolls in or the track crosses a creek, it dries fast rather than hanging wet on you for the rest of the walk.
The zipped cargo pocket takes a full-size phone — no rattle, no fall-out when you bend to tie a lace. More zipped pockets look after keys, cards and snacks, and a front loop holds a set of keys, a head torch strap or a small tether.
Now the honest part. Care is hand wash only. No machine and no dry cleaning. That's the trade-off for a light stretch fabric that dries this quickly.
Coverage. Pockets. One piece.
