Halfway up the track the phone is in one hand, the muesli bar is in the other, and the car keys are digging into your hip through a pocket that is barely deep enough to hold them. The shorts that looked fine at home have slipped down twice since the car park, and every big step up a rock ledge pulls tight across the thighs.
Then the heat arrives at eleven and the fabric starts to stick.
Nowhere to put anything, no stretch, and a waistband that won't stay where you left it. These shorts fix all three.
The fabric is a lightweight, quick-dry polyester with four-way stretch. It gives in every direction, so a high step, a scramble or a squat to fill a bottle at the creek doesn't pull at the seams or the waistband. It dries fast after a sweaty climb or a splash at a crossing, and it carries an odour-resistant finish for long days and back-to-back walks, plus a water-resistant finish on the outside.
Storage is six pockets in total. Two front pockets for your hands and phone, two flap-covered cargo pockets on the thighs, and two patch pockets on the back. Keys, snacks, a folded map and a lip balm each get their own place instead of fighting for one bulging pocket.
The fit is high-waisted, with a button and zip at the front, belt loops, and an elastic panel across the back. The front stays neat enough for a café stop after the walk, while the back gives as you move and as you sit. At 185 g they roll up small in a daypack or a travel bag.
Four colours: Camel, Black, Cool Grey and Army Green.
Available in S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL and 4XL. The high waist sits above the hips, the front closes with a button and zip, and the elastic back panel gives a little as you move. Mid-thigh length, as shown on the model.
Six pockets. Four-way stretch. One pair for every track.
