Two hundred kilometres up a gravel road, a sharp rock or a stray bolt finds the rear tyre. The spare goes on, which is fine, until the next puncture an hour later leaves you with no spare at all and no tyre shop for a day's drive.
Out there a tubeless puncture does not have to mean a tow. Most are a nail, a screw or a sharp stone through the tread, and those can be plugged on the side of the road in about ten minutes.
This kit has every tool for that job in one hard case.
Find the object in the tread and pull it out with the long nose pliers. Push the T-handle spiral probe into the hole and work it in and out to clean and open the channel. Thread a sticky repair plug through the eye of the T-handle insertion tool, coat it with the lubricant, and push it into the hole until about a centimetre is left showing. Pull the tool straight out, the plug stays in, and you trim the ends flush with the trim knife.
Pump the tyre back up and check it with the pressure gauge in the kit, which reads from 10 to 120 psi. A little soapy water over the repair shows whether it is sealed.
Both T-handles have long metal grips, so you can put your weight behind them on a stiff 4WD tyre. The rest of the case holds spare valve cores, extension valves, valve caps and a valve stem tool for the valve side of a flat, plus two hex keys.
Know its limits. A plug is for holes in the tread of a tubeless tyre. Sidewall cuts, big tears and tyres with tubes need a different fix, and a plugged tyre should be checked by a tyre shop when you get back to town.
Plug it. Pump it. Keep driving.
