Five hours up the highway, you pull into the campground as the light goes. The kids are hungry, the poles are in three different bags, and somebody has to hold a corner while the wind tries to take the fly. A pop up tent skips that whole part of the night.
Pole tents are fine when you have daylight, a flat site and two sets of free hands. Pull in after dark, with an esky to unload and a fire to get going, and that is exactly what you do not have.
This tent goes up from the bag in four steps, with the frame already attached.
The frame is built into the tent and folds with it. Take it out of the carry bag and unfold it on the ground, lift the hub at the top centre, then press down to lock it open. The dome holds its shape from there, with no poles to thread, sort or lose in the grass.
Mesh windows in the walls let air move through on warm nights, and a wide door makes getting in and out with kids, bedding and bags easier. The seams are sealed for light rain and passing showers. It is built for fine-weather camping and the odd shower, not as a storm shelter.
Four guy ropes and four stakes come with it, so you can tie it down properly when the afternoon breeze picks up. Packed down, the whole tent goes into a 73 cm carry bag that fits in the boot with the rest of the gear.
Choose the 2-3 Person size at 210 x 150 x 125 cm for a couple or a parent and child, or the 3-4 Person size at 210 x 190 x 135 cm for the family.
Four steps. Then the esky.
