Two in the afternoon at the cricket, the beach or the queue for the ferry, and there is not a breath of wind. The air sits on you like a wet towel. A plain little fan just pushes the same hot air around your face, and the spray bottle in the bag is warm, half empty and somewhere under the sunscreen.
Moving air helps. Moving air with a fine mist in it is a different thing altogether.
This fan carries its own water.
The handle is a clear 150 ml water tank. Unscrew it, fill it at a tap or from your drink bottle, screw it back on and you can see how much is left at a glance.
Above the tank sits the fan head, a round cage with a spoked guard set in a curved bracket that lets you tip the head to aim the air. Just below the head is a small nozzle that sends a fine mist out into the airflow, so the breeze reaching your face carries a cool haze of water with it.
The buttons are on the side of the body, where your thumb falls while you hold the tank. The supplier lists four fan speeds, from a gentle breeze to a strong blast.
It charges by USB-C, so it runs off the same cable as most phones and tops up from a power bank in the car or the tent. When you put it down, the flat bottom of the tank lets it stand upright on a table and keep blowing.
The whole thing is 16.8 cm tall and 4 cm across, small enough for a beach bag, a backpack side pocket or the glovebox.
Fill it. Switch it on. Stay out longer.
