First light on the river or in the hide, and you pull a buff up over your face. Fifteen minutes later it's fogging your sunnies, so it comes down. Then the sun clears the ridge and hits your cheek, so it goes back up. By lunch you've done that forty times and it still never sits where you want it.
Add a cotton shirt that soaks through on the walk in and stays wet, plus a base layer you keep tugging straight underneath, and you've spent more time fiddling with gear than fishing.
This shirt has the hood, the face cover and the long-sleeve layer sewn into one piece. Pull the face cover up when the sun or the wind comes in. Drop it under the collar to take a drink, call a mate or line up a shot. One garment, one motion.
The face cover is built into the hood. It pulls up over your nose and mouth and sits at the bridge of your nose without slipping, so there's no bare skin between collar and eyes. Pushed down, it tucks under the collar and out of the way. There's nothing separate to lose on the bank and nothing to re-adjust every quarter of an hour.
The fabric is quick drying and breathable. It moves sweat off your skin and lets it go into the air rather than holding it against your chest. On a morning that starts cold and still and turns warm and windy by ten, the shirt keeps up with the swing without you having to peel off a layer.
Raglan sleeves run from the collar to the underarm, with no shoulder seam to get in the way of a cast, a draw or shouldering a rifle. Medium-stretch fabric moves with your arm through the full motion.
The camouflage print is low contrast and made for spring and autumn field use, where pale bark and dry grass make solid colours stand out. It's field camo, not a costume.
The honest part: we don't have a sun-protection rating for this fabric, so we don't claim one. What the shirt gives you is physical coverage — arms, neck and face — from a single garment.
Stop switching layers. Cover up in one piece.
