Most men end up owning two pairs. A hiking boot that grips but looks like it belongs on a mountain, and a casual boot that looks right with jeans and slides on the first patch of loose gravel.
So every weekend you pick one, and whichever you pick is wrong for half the day. The walk ends at a pub, or the barbecue turns into a wander down to the creek.
This is a high-top lace-up boot with a deep-lug hiking sole and a clean, one-colour upper. One pair for both.
The padded collar rises over the ankle. On rough sections it covers the ankle against rock, roots and scrub, and the padding stops the top edge from digging in over a long day.
Underneath, a thick tonal midsole carries a multi-directional lug outsole. The lugs bite into dirt, gravel and loose rock where a flat street sole slides. A studded bumper wraps up over the toe to take the knocks from rocks and roots.
The upper is PU with textile mesh at the tongue and collar and a quilted stripe panel along the side. Round eyelets run the lower lacing and two metal speed hooks finish the top, so you pull the collar snug and tie off in seconds. A heel pull tab gets them on and off at the door.
Now the honest part. These are casual boots with a real hiking sole, not technical mountain boots. No waterproofing claim and no stiff shank for heavy packs. They are for weekend walks, camping trips and everyday wear, and that is where they earn their keep.
One pair for the track and the town.
