Five kilometres into the Sunday run along the beach path, the loose running shorts you grabbed have bunched up and the inside of your thighs is starting to rub. You already know how the next five kilometres are going to feel.
Go the other way and run in tights, and the rubbing stops — but then you're standing in the café queue afterwards feeling like you forgot to put your shorts on. Either way, the house key is bouncing in a pocket with no zip or tied to a shoelace.
These shorts give you both layers in one, and a zip for the key.
The inner layer is a fitted liner that sits close against your thigh. It moves with you instead of bunching, so there's fabric between your legs rather than skin on skin, and skin on skin is what turns into chafe on a long run.
Over it sits a light outer short with a relaxed cut and curved split hems at the sides. It moves freely over the liner, so deep squats, lunges and a full stride don't pull at the waist, and you still get normal shorts coverage on top.
Heat gets out through perforated panels in the liner, placed where a fitted layer would otherwise hold it in. The fabric is made to wick sweat and dry quickly, so the shorts don't hang heavy after a humid run or a hot session at the gym.
An adjustable drawstring sets the mid-rise waist so it holds through sprints and quick changes of direction, and a zip pocket at the side keeps a key or a card secure while you move.
Sizes are S, M, L and XL. The cut is a regular fit with a mid-rise waistband, and the drawstring fine-tunes the waist. The inner liner is made to sit close to the thigh, so expect it to feel snug rather than loose; that close fit is what keeps it from riding up.
Two layers. Free stride. Stays put.
