You are halfway along a coastal track when the drizzle comes in sideways. Cotton pants start soaking it up within minutes, and by the time the sun comes back you are walking in heavy, clammy fabric that takes the rest of the afternoon to dry.
Meanwhile the open flap pocket on your thigh has snagged on a branch twice, and every time you crouch to step down off a rock the flat-cut knee pulls tight.
These hiking pants shrug off light rain, dry quickly, keep a pocket zipped shut and let your knees move.
The fabric is a 65% polyester and 35% cotton blend with a DWR (durable water-repellent) finish. Light rain and surface moisture bead and run off instead of soaking straight in, and the fabric is quick-drying, so a damp patch does not stay with you for the rest of the walk. The construction is wind-resistant too, which you will notice on an exposed ridge or a breezy headland.
The honest limit: water-repellent is not waterproof. In a sustained downpour you still want proper rain pants over the top.
A full-zip thigh pocket closes completely, so your phone and keys stay put while you scramble, and multiple pockets including cargo pockets carry the rest of what you bring. An articulated knee panel is shaped to the bend of the leg, so crouching, stepping up and climbing do not drag on the fabric.
Five colourways, Black, Army Green, Light Brown, Grey and Multicolour, in a wide size range from S to 5XL with a measured size chart below.
Rain off. Pocket shut. Knees free.
