You drive over a creek on the way to somewhere else and see the water sitting perfect under the bridge. You would stop if you had a rod. You don't, because the rod lives in the shed in a tube that doesn't fit in anything. So you keep driving and promise yourself you'll come back on the weekend. You know how that ends.
And if you have tried a cheap telescopic rod before, you probably met the other problem: a reel seat that won't take the reel you own, so the rod sits in a cupboard until you buy another reel to suit it.
This is a collapsible rod that comes with the reel already matched, already spooled and small enough to live in the car, the pack or the caravan.
The blank is telescopic. The sections slide down inside one another instead of pulling apart, so there are no separate pieces, no ferrules to line up and nothing to leave behind on the bank. Pull it open and it locks out at fishing length. Push it shut and it goes back in the bag.
It comes as a matched set. That matters more than it sounds, because the most common complaint about telescopic rods is a reel that doesn't fit the seat. Here the spinning reel is the right size from the start, already spooled with line, and it threads onto a screw-down reel seat that tightens down and holds through a day of casting. The reel handle swaps sides, so it works left- or right-handed without modification.
Two extended lengths. The 149 cm suits overgrown creek banks and close casts, where a longer rod hooks the scrub behind you on every back-swing. The 171 cm gives you more reach and a wider casting arc on open water, a dam or a lake edge. The guides fold down with the blank, so nothing snags when it goes back in the bag.
Extra-light power and moderate action, which is a deliberate choice for small freshwater fish. The blank loads up on the cast and shows you when something small has taken the lure, instead of letting a little fish pick away at it unnoticed.
Now the honest part. A telescopic rod trades some performance for the ability to go anywhere. This one is built for lure fishing for small freshwater species. It is the rod that is with you, not the rod you would choose for chasing a personal best.
No tube. No assembly. No more driving past the water.
